Bill Lane is a professional photographer living in the New Hampshire seacoast community of North Hampton, who specializes in marine and editorial photography.
Bill began his career in photography with the Air Force in 1959 serving three years in Germany as a ground-based photographer. This was followed by twenty-one years as staff photographer with the The Daily News in Newburyport, Massachusetts, six years teaching photography at Governor Dummer Academy and twenty-four years freelancing. Currently, he works out of his North Hampton home of fifteen years and teaches beginning photography lessons to students in a one-on-one setting.
Bill is available to provide photography services for weddings, corporate events, and any other event needing professional, editorial coverage. Bill’s style is journalistic; he captures the event primarily from the point of view of a bystander, rather than trying to pose and control the event. At a wedding, the photographer should blend in and capture your special day as it happens, without forcing shots and interrupting conversations.
Bill offers private photography classes for the discerning student interested in gaining a foundation in all aspects of photography, from the physical mechanics of the camera—whether digital or film—to proper exposure using the film speed/ISO, light meter, aperture, and shutter speed. Bill’s photography classes are held near the the seacoast towns of Portsmouth, Newmarket, Exeter, Lee, Durham, Dover, Rye and Seabrook, NH, Kittery and York, ME, and Amesbury, Salisbury and Newburyport, MA.
Bill operates a small gallery in Market Square, Newburyport, MA, where his more artistic work is on display for visitors to appreciate. Bill’s passion for sailing and sailboat racing serves as a foundation for his volumes of marine photography, some of which is on display in the gallery, and is often published in national sailing magazines.
